Introduction to Mental health

Knowledge

The following material does not need to be reviewed in any particular order. Browse through the resources and start off with whatever interests you the most. We will have an open discussion based on concepts covered in this section.

  • How did you feel after watching this video?

  • What do you think influences the perception of mental health the most in the United States?

  • Which areas of Maslow’s Hierarchy are affected by mental health?

Flashcard Time!

While reviewing the information covered in the knowledge section, write out any words, lab values, or medications you are unfamiliar with. Keep it simple and try your best to limit the card to no more than 5 words. It is always best to keep a stack of flash cards nearby to be effective with your time and memorization!

in-class case study

Powerpoint

Look through an overview of the content that will be discussed today. The PowerPoint is designed to be read along with the Podcast at the same time.

Podcast

Listen to a podcast that covers the general concepts that will be discussed today. The podcast is designed to be listened to along with the PowerPoint at the same time.

Worksheets

Download the entire worksheet packet for this week’s content. Use the comic strip exercise to develop a dialogue between a nurse and a client that explains the vocabulary words. This is a great way to make concepts less abstract and more concrete. As you work through the videos, podcasts, and/or powerpoint, start filling in the concept map included in the packet.
